While she dabbles in many mediums, her photography and drawings have to be my favorite. Their confrontational, raw beauty almost makes the viewer nostalgic for a past that is not even their own.
Lucia started out her creative career by experimenting with drawing and sculpting clay, and since then has expanded her artistic repertoire to include photography and painting, as well as other mediums. At just 18 years old, high school senior Lucia is a thoughtful and impressive multidisciplinary artist. Her drive to create and share her work reflects this new digital age we live in, where everyone has access to our work online if we want them to. In ways, the rise of Instagram and other photo-sharing websites seem to encourage artists to start creating at younger and younger ages, as they inspired by the fact that they have the ability to create their very own platform. Lucia is mostly interested in creating art that revolves around people and human intimacy. When asked what inspires her, she responded with her mom, nature, and the past. I was intrigued why her mom inspired her, to which she simply explained, “Her life is art”. Ironically, this answer of Lucia’s classically captures her poetic, profound outlook on her creations.
So what’s next for Lucia? She explained to me that she has an interest in creating “a bible of sorts” made up of her art, that contains “everything that she knows to be true”. Lucia’s creative ideas are more than inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
